Plug Valve Basics
The plug valve is a cone or cylinder-shaped valve that uses a rotator inside the valve body to control flow of fluids. Plug valves have at least one hollow passageway to allow fluid through the open valve, most often horizontally. This type of valves are especially useful for high pressure scenarios.
Types of Plug Valves
The two port model with an open and closed position is the most common type of plug valve. The ports are usually located on opposite sides with the passageway leading in to out. The handle and stem of plug valve is generally located on the top. A quarter turn valve is also commonly used, especially where frequent and quick operation is essential. The valve ends can be flanged, hub type, or butt weld.
