There are many basic functions of a valve, including interception, controlling, water abstraction, preventing reverse flow, regulating power, bypassing flow, overflowing water to relief pressure, etc.

Valves used for flow control systems, from the simplest check valves to sophisticated valves used in self-control systems, come in many kinds and specifications. A valve can be used to control flow in atmosphere, water, vapor, all kinds of corroded medium, mud, petroleum, fluent metal, radiating medium and so on.

Valves can be divided into many kinds according to materials, like the cast iron valve, cast steel valve, stainless steel valve (including 201, 304, 316, etc), chrome-molybdenum steel valve, dual phase steel valve, plastic valve, non-standard valve and so on.

Definition: valve is a device to control the direction, impress, fluid of flow in fluid system. And it can make these medium (such as liquid, gas, powder), inside pipes and equipment, flow or stop and it can control its fluid.

There are many operational methods to control valve, including manual, gear, electric, fluid and pneumatic, turbo, electromagnetic, electromagnetic hydraulic, pneumatic and liquid etc. Under the effects of pressure, temperature or other influence factors, a valve can rise and fall, slid, rotary swing or turning move through driving or actuator, according to scheduled actions, or realize simple opening and closing without sensing signal, so as to control itself by changing the scale of fluid.
